Infidel

(Sean Sullivan)

This lyric focuses on the notion of falling from grace. The verses lean into somewhat ambiguous imagery, meant to suggest the dichotomy between good and evil. The chorus is straightforward, describing a descent from high ground. In my head, it’s an up-tempo, bluesy rocker in the spirit of Ray Charles.

Troubled poetry Troubled dreams Cast upon the rapids Of a rippling stream Bad news travels fast That explains the wake On the wandering past We don’t know where we want it to end Except for way down yonder past fishermen’s bend (Chorus) Angels live in heaven, baby That’s a fact But angels gotta leave When their halos crack It hurts their knuckles rapping On the doors of hell It hurts an angel to become an infidel (End Chorus) Broken promises Broken thoughts Dying in the cold Like forget-me-nots Good news travels slow That explains the footprints In the deepening snow May be a stick of thorns or an olive branch But they’re both buried deep below the avalanche (Chorus) (Bridge) Leopards can’t change spots Turtles can’t swap shells Witches they can cast But the can’t break spells (End Bridge) Fading memories Fading smile Shrinking in a mirror Back a country mile No news is good news That explains why dusty roads All fork in two (Chorus)

The Pallbearers Of Truth

By Sean Sullivan

This is a blues song that laments the startling sudden, and recent, death of truth in modern Western culture. Whether you feel that it died at the hands of the media, the Internet, shallow self-serving politicians, or their followers, we can all agree that it’s fatally wounded. The music for this song needs gravel and anger, but should also evoke an arm-around-a-stranger’s-neck sing along at an Irish Bar, as if we’re partying at our own wake.

Calling It A Day

By Sean Sullivan

At the end of hope is surrender. We struggle. We lose more often than we wish, we routinely grind most contests to a draw, and, yes, occasionally we win. Those wins are the fuel to forge ahead. But this song is about running out of gas. It’s a lyric perhaps well-suited for a slow tempo, sparse instrumentals, and an understated atmosphere that lets bleakness take center stage.

Tears Of Joy

By Sean Sullivan

The narrator in Tears Of Joy is in an apparently vulnerable position when he or she is surprised by an unexpected visitor, who finds the subject alone, disheveled, possibly drunk, and crying. Immediately, the narrator begins to cover his/her tracks, explaining away the evidence of despair.

Wild Like The Horses

By John Hanover

Inspired by the wild horses of the Southwestern and Western USA, Poland, and Mongolia. This is also an early experiment with a rhyme scheme similar to other forms of poetry in repetition of lines. As with all my writings, I can edit as needed or work out a melody to suit any genre.

DIVE BAR HEAVEN

By Paul Meekin

This song is a clever and spirited journey through "Dive Bar Heaven," weaving a rich tapestry of Americana and Christian imagery into a rollicking narrative of afterlife escapades. Echoing the epic lyrical style of "American Pie," it blends humor with deep cultural and religious references, portraying a heavenly honky-tonk where the saints and sinners mingle over heavenly brews. Each verse is packed with allusions to saints, classic country music icons, and playful takes on religious rituals, creating a lively celebration of life, redemption, and eternal revelry. It’s a uniquely imaginative take on the afterlife, filled with wit and a deep appreciation for Americana, making it a modern-day anthem for the soulful and the saved.

"Man muss das Leben eben nehmen - wie das Leben eben ist", Schlager (könnte "fröhlich-wütend" gesungen werden - oder einfach, wie es der Sänger empfindet...)
