Interview with Howard Aronson
PL: Hi Howard, you are a lyricist and songwriter. Please tell us a little more about yourself:
Howard: Well, I'm 62, and originally from RI. I now live in Massachusetts. I am a lover of music and culture in general. I am a Consultant, as well as a Professional Mountain Guide in the White Mountains of NH. I love the outdoors, dogs, and sports. Fitness and healthy food are important to me. I am also a self taught drummer. I think I need to find a better teacher.
I am a Recovering Addict, and have BiPolar and ADHD. Both really help me with my creative side, as they conjure up lots of ideas for lyrics.
PL: What brought you in this genre?
Howard: I started writing short stories as a young boy, maybe 11 or 12. As I got older, I would write poetry for my girlfriends. Never did I think of doing anything with them. Since I love music, and really like reading/listening to the lyrics, I thought that I could write what I call Lyrical Poetry. Last year I started to research "how to get lyrics published, and I came across Premium Lyrics. I already had 25 or so written, and sent 3 to PL. The rest, as they say, is history.
PL: Who are the artists have you found most inspiring?
Howard: This is a great question. I wish I could name them all, but I will tell you my top 5. First and foremost is Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam. His lyrics bring tears to my eyes. Next would be Echo and the Bunnymen. Ian McCulloch, their lead singer is a very unique Lyricist. Songs like Do it clean, and Ocean Rain are 2 of my favorites. Number 3 is a Canadian band called The Tragically Hip. Their lead Singer, Gord Downie was just amazing, and the lyrics were so powerful. He passed in 2018. Number 4 is Led Zeppelin.....enough said! Number 5 would be Soundgarden. Chris Cornell was so good at putting together shorter songs, and making a repetitive chorus really work around fewer verses. I really like Grunge, and to me they were right behind Pearl Jam. I guess Nirvana was 5B.
PL: What are your plan for the future?
Howard: My plans for the future are to keep writing, and have fun with it. If I sell some of my lyrics, and can make some money, cool. But that's not why I do it. I would love to hook up with a band, who is looking for a writer. Or maybe I can be someone's Bernie Taupin.
I also plan to retire to the mountains, and Guide on more of a regular basis.
PL: PREMIUM LYRICS is a young but fast growing collaboration site for musicians and lyricists. What do you think about the concept?
Howard: This is such an awesome concept, and I'm grateful I found PL, and that they accepted me into their family of lyricists. I think it's great to read other writers work, and see the different styles. Pl also gives me the "platform" I was looking for, to get my lyrics in front of potential buyers/publishers.
Thanks to Christian for creating PL, and having me as one of your Lyricists.
