Arriving at my house
I leave the hell of war behind
in the quiet of the night
I wonder what I'll find
I know I'm not forgotten
there are photos everywhere
opened letters that I wrote
sit at the bottom of the stair
I move around quietly
don't want to wake those who sleep
up the stairs along the hall
to my wife's room, I creep
she lies there all tearful
I couldn't understand
tears on her pillow
holding a letter in her hand
I didn't want to wake her
didn't like to see her cry
though I wanted to speak
and ask the reason why
she looked sad and broken
tears on the letter that I read
telling her I was lost in battle
but how could I be dead
I looked at her mirror
there was no reflection to see
I couldn't believe
there was no sign of me
her eyes opened gently
she called out my name
I was lost forever
war is not a game
