My Generation

(Dawn Isbell Wilson)

This song is a generational anthem that traces the lives of Boomers through Gen Alpha, weaving together cultural milestones, scars, and resilience. Each verse captures the defining experiences of a generation—from civil rights marches and the fall of the Berlin Wall to 9/11, climate change, Covid, and digital saturation. The chorus binds them as chapters in a single book, while the Outro reflects on the burdens we inherit and the stories we pass down. It’s both a tribute and a reckoning, showing how every age carries its own scars yet remains part of one timeless tale.

Verse (The Boomers) I’ve heard it said of boomers That we’re stuck in the past Unwilling to change Unable to see How difficult your lives can be We fought for civil rights And marched to end a war Saw our heroes die too soon And watched as men walked on the moon Chorus We are the chapters in a book A timeless tale we hold Each page builds upon the other As our lives unfold Verse (Gen X) We’re children of the boomers Raised on Rock and Roll We wanted a change So we could know A better way to learn and grow Our mothers burned their bras And marched for equal rights We watched the Berlin wall collapse And history redraw the maps Chorus We are the chapters in a book A timeless tale we hold Each page builds upon the other As our lives unfold Verse (Millennials) Most of us were latchkey kids We liked our independence We bought computers And dreamed in code We knew this was an open road We tried to teach our parents About the changing times We saw the towers fall apart And carried chaos in our heart Chorus We are the chapters in a book A timeless tale we hold Each page builds upon the other As our lives unfold Verse (Gen Z) Our wakeup call came early Our childhoods went too fast We didn’t play outside Or even ride our bikes Our worth measured by the likes Growing up with climate change And smartphones in our hands We learned to fear the classroom door And innocence was ours no more Chorus We are the chapters in a book A timeless tale we hold Each page builds upon the other As our lives unfold Verse (Gen Alpha) We’ve never seen a pay phone Or used a radio All our music’s streamed We spend our lives in front of screens And Covid ended all our dreams Growing up when politics Split families in two We feel the stress before our time And fear the lies we can’t define Chorus We are the chapters in a book A timeless tale we hold Each page builds upon the other As our lives unfold Outro We take on the scars from our parents before We each add our own and pass down the lore The burdens we carry, the stories we tell Are inked in the book that we all know so well

Life's a Dark Comedy

By Dawn Isbell Wilson

These lyrics were inspired by my husband who, one morning a few months ago, said, “You should write a song about how life is a dark comedy.” He had suggested a few ideas before, but this one really struck me as different and interesting. So, I decided to take up the challenge. The lyrics weave together absurd theater and bittersweet humor, painting life as both performance and parody. Empty rooms, forgotten lines, and ironic applause capture the tension between tragedy and laughter, reminding us that even our flaws can become part of the show. At its heart, the song invites listeners to see themselves as players in the same comedy—sometimes stumbling, sometimes shining, but always part of the ensemble. It’s both a wink and a sigh, a reminder that the joke belongs to all of us. This song makes strong references to Shakespeare's Play "As You Like It", taking from a most memorable and often quoted soliloquy "The Seven Ages of Man" aka "All the World's a Stage".

King of the White House

By Dawn Isbell Wilson

This is just a silly song I felt like writing during these insane times when we, in the United States, are tottering between a wanna be monarch and complete economic collapse. I originally wrote this with the opening number in The Man of La Mancha in my head. Ultimately, these lyrics work well with a satirical, dark cabaret beat.

Song for the Summer Solstice

By Dawn Isbell Wilson

This song celebrates the fiery fullness of the Summer Solstice, the longest day, when the sun reigns high and wild. It’s a time of abundance, of dancing barefoot, of honoring the heat and the harvest to come. The song leans into joy, but also into the knowledge that the light begins to wane.

When Truth Becomes Myth

By Dawn Isbell Wilson

This song was inspired by the erosion of truth across science, politics, and belief systems. It was inspired by cognitive biases, emotional hooks, and the echo chambers of ignorance, hatred, and fear. What can be said about a society where conspiracy lies are more widely believed than scientific facts? I started thinking about Andrew Wakefield’s legacy of deception—how millions still believe vaccines are dangerous, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. But it doesn’t stop there. From climate denial to myths about political violence, we’re watching truth become mythology in real time. This song is a reflection, a warning, and a challenge. It’s not about you… unless it is.

tired of pain

I wrote this song after I broke up with my ex boyfriend - I was trying so hard on this relationship and I really wanted it to work but somehow I was the only one who was fighting - after the breakup I was so down and sad and heartbroken because I just wanted a love that lasts and that is real and this is what the song is about - I doubted myself being enough
