Strangely Bright

(Nicole Krueger)

A song about those transient and trivial earthly things, and how in the light of eternity, rather than growing "strangely dim" as the old hymn says, they grow "strangely bright," illuminated, even in their insignificance, by the great significance of their Creator, and by the hope of resurrection. The title is taken from the book of the same name by Joe Rigney. Inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:9-21 and a certain night by the edge of Lake Superior.

I took the path the moon cast on the waters And I fell off the edge of the world I waited there, my hands full of pebbles And watched as they mattered more and more The wave bowed her head and shuddered Then raised her lips to kiss his tender hand He came to me with basketfuls of cherries And we feasted on the fruits of the land And these lonely atoms Dancing in orbit round his throne And these restless bodies And passing things of earth all grow Strangely bright Ships will come from long-forgotten countries Bearing things familiar and strange The veil will peel back, a scroll set on fire But there will burn a well-remembered face And these lonely atoms Dancing in orbit round his throne And these restless bodies And passing things of earth all grow Strangely bright

All or nothing

By Howard Aronson

This song is really about nothing in particular. It's obscure enough, that you can derive your own meaning from it. I was inspired to write this by the psychedelic furs.
