When our house was a home
This about raising kids and all the hectic things that go with it wherw sometimes you throw your hands up, and want to get away from it, but later in life when there all grown up and moved away you find yourself missing all those times the toys the noise like hey daddy look at me the hugs and kisses meant more then the temporary time.

Verse 1
I sat down on the steps today
Watched an old clip of my girls at play
Running ’round all over the place
Yeah, but that was a long time ago today
Sun-faded jeans and scraped-up knees
Little voices yelling “Daddy, watch me”
Time was loud, love overflowed
Man, it feels like another road
Pre-Chorus
Funny how the years move fast
Funny what you miss when it’s past
Chorus (your chorus — tightened, same meaning)
Now they’re all grown up and gone
And this happy house don’t feel like a home
Funny how you miss some things
While some things slowly fade away
Yeah, I sure miss the sound of coming home
Getting a kiss from all three of my own
Hearing laughing and fightin’
Over who’s gonna get a knee
Yeah, that was a long time ago
When our happy house felt like a home
Verse 2
Hallway quiet, lights turned low
No slammed doors, no radio
Empty rooms hold echoes still
Of bedtime prayers and windowsills
I wouldn’t trade a single tear
For the lives they built from here
Proud don’t mean it don’t hurt bad
Missing what we once all had
Pre-Chorus 2
Love grows wings, kids move on
But that don’t make it easy, son
Chorus
Now they’re all grown up and gone
And this happy house don’t feel like a home
Funny how you miss some things
While some things slowly fade away
Yeah, I sure miss the sound of coming home
Getting a kiss from all three of my own
Hearing laughing and fightin’
Over who’s gonna get a knee
Yeah, that was a long time ago
When our happy house felt like a home
Bridge (sad but happy turn)
But every now and then the phone lights up
“Hey Dad, I’m on my way, what’s up?”
And for a moment, time stands still
Like it always somehow will
Final Chorus (lift)
They’re all grown up, yeah, they’re gone
But this old heart still holds them close
Funny how love never fades
Even when everything else changes
Yeah, I still hear the sound of coming home
In every laugh that’s ever known
Those memories keep reminding me
I was rich in ways you can’t outgrow
Yeah, it was a long time ago
But our happy house was a home.
