PL: Hi Cam, you are a lyricist and songwriter. Please tell us a little more about yourself:

Cam: Hi! My name is Cam Baragiola, and my main passion is writing. Other than songwriting, I recently published a poetry book called "The Prince of the Paper", and a fantasy story for middle-graders, called "Nutmeg All'Inizio del Mondo". The fantasy book is in Italian, my mother-tongue, but I'm currently writing other stories in English. My favourite thing about songwriting though, is how it relates to music. Music is very important to me, especially rock music. I am very happy emo and pop-punk are coming back right now. There are a lot of artists who are challenging themselves in this genre, and their newest records are my among my favourites lately. Machine Gun Kelly, YUNGBLUD, Mod Sun and Avril Lavigne, to name a few.

PL: What brought you in this genre?

Cam: I started loving lyrics the way I do when I first read the lyrics of Green Day's "American Idiot" (the whole album, not just the song). It was clear to me that the lyrics weren't just a part of the music. They also narrated a story -- it was almost like reading a book. And a very cool one at that. Not many groups have done it. Green Day has done it again with "21st Century Breakdown", and My Chemical Romance constantly do it, too. I started writing my own lyrics when I was twelve years old, after finding out about these bands, and I haven't stopped ever since, which makes for a long amount of time, considering I'm to be twenty-six this year!

PL: Who are the artists have you found most inspiring?

Cam: My main inspirations are grunge artists like Courtney Love, or Billy Corgan. I love the way they can both be poetic and straight-forward at the same time. It's what I aim to do with my lyrics. Conor Oberst is another huge inspiration too. He's basically a genius. Lately, I've been loving Taylor Swift's "Folklore" and "Evermore". I wish I could write like Taylor. Another new artist I like is Billie Eilish. But, after fourteen years of writing songs, I think I sound the most like myself when I'm writing. I notice that I frequently use similar images or patterns that are my own, like the way I constantly insert positive and negative elements in my writing, and try to make them counterbalance each other. In this way, a love song can get pretty rough, or a harder song can have sweet imagery in it, too.

PL: What are your plan for the future?

Cam: I'm currently involved in many projects. Some of them involve writing, others not so much. I am looking forward to trying out new things too. I am about to direct and star in a short movie, for example. I have no idea where this is going, but I love being there for the ride.

PL: PREMIUM LYRICS is a young but fast growing collaboration site for musicians and lyricists. What do you think about the concept?

Cam: Premium Lyrics is pretty awesome. When I started writing songs, I never imagined I could someday profit from it. And, when I googled if I could, all the other good sites asked me to pay a big fee in order to be a member. To be able to do this without a paid membership, with such cool people, and good bands, it's not something that happens everywhere else on the Internet, or in reality for that matter. There's a simplicity to it that makes it absolutely fantastical. And I'm really grateful for the part it has played in my life so far, and can't wait to see where it's taking me next!
