Arbeit für alle, die sie brauchen
um zu überleben.
Nähe, Wärme und Umarmung
mit all unsren Lieben,
das ist im alten Jahr
wohl auf der Strecke gebliebn.
Verständnis und Zusammenhalt
nicht nur in schweren Zeiten,
Liebe und mehr Menschlichkeit
mögen uns begleiten,
die Armut wird gemildert
wir reichen unsre Hand,
all jenen, die sie brauchen
egal, in welchem Land.

Ich wünsche mir fürs neue Jahr
dass jene, die regieren,
endlich Klarheit finden mögen,
bevor wir uns verlieren,
nicht heute hü und morgen hott
sondern sich einig sind, 
und alle Menschen auf der Welt
für Recht und Freiheit sind.
Ich wünsche mir, fürs neue Jahr
Segen für die ganze Welt,
dass sie stabil wird, wieder stark
und zusammenhält,
dass wir nicht den Mut verlieren 
und auch nicht die Kraft, 
wir im neuen Jahr dann sagen können
wir haben es geschafft!

A couple of years ago I spent some time in Mariposa, a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California. Each week the local newspaper would publish a resume of the incidents, provided by the County Sheriff’s Office, that occurred in and around the town during that week. In this song, a member of the Sheriff’s Office has discovered that his wife doesn’t love him anymore. In the first part he is leaving to get to work, he’s in the car, listening to the radio and thinking of what had been happening. The second part is a list of his work during that week that will end up appearing in the local paper. Life in its mundanity and sadness.
