Famous

(Howard Aronson)

This is a lyric about a relationship with a potential star, who becomes one. As the relationship goes along and the person becomes a bigger star they leave, and when they return there's always less of them that comes back. The person who isn't the star knows that the days are numbered and they will leave one day for good. The only good thing about it was that person got famous from the other. Famous for being the other one in the relationship. Even though they should have known better to get involved and stay in the relationship, they did.

I met you when you were young Never thought you'd be a star I can't believe it happened Here we are You would shine like the Sun And I would walk in your shadow But the bright lights got to you And off you would go You made me famous But you broke my heart I should have known better Right from the start I use say Don't go, just stay this time And everyday I wondered Why couldn't you be mine You would just look at me And give me a smile Then you'd walk out the door I knew I wouldn't see you for a while You made me famous But you broke my heart I should have known better Right from the start

Ole Mr Sundown

By Howard Aronson

This is a fictional lyric about an outlaw in the wild West. Mr Sundown is a feared man by many, but seen by few. If you do run into him things probably won't go so well. He portrays himself as a deputy, or a bounty hunter, but in fact he's just another gunslinger looking for a kill. He's prayed off the weak, and stolen from many. But really he's a nobody, and his time will come.

Hurdles

By Howard Aronson

Throughout life there are many hurdles that get in the way of where you want to go. It's up to you if you want to go through them over them or around them. For me, I was always one to think about escaping everything, and when I'm on top of a mountain I feel like I want to stay there because it helps me escape from everything. I don't want to face the hurdles, I don't want things to be too tough, I've always wanted it to be easy. I realize that that's not possible, and also realized that climbing to the top of a mountain is not easy, and it has its hurdles. Only after contemplating for a long time do I realize this, and think about coming down and reentering the reality.

What if there's no God

By Howard Aronson

This is a song about someone who stops believing. There's just so much wrong about the world, and they ponder about God's existence. They're not sure that they really can fully understand all this, but it's a reality. All they want to do is just leave this all behind and move into another phase of life, but they can't. There's no escaping reality. You can leave everything behind, and go somewhere else, but it's like the mail, everything is forwarded to you.

Don't stop healing

By Howard Aronson

This lyric was inspired by the rapper Lil Durk. He said something that stuck with me when I was watching an interview with him on the Ari melber show. He said that you can never be healed. I kind of relate to that, because I always say don't stop healing. I've gone through so much adversity in my life and come out the other side. But I can't stop thinking that I've got everything under control. I have to continue as we heal the wounds that I created throughout the years, and try not to pick them like a scab, so that I will wake them up. In some ways I had to think about this a lot, because there was a time in my life when I believed that I was healed. Another way of putting it is that I'll never be cured from the disease of addiction. I'll always have to take my medicine every day.

Standing Here and Looking Back

By Isaac Wragg

Nostalgia is appealing, but it also has an enemy. Forgetting the last can harm us just as much as idolizing it. Finding a balance is hard, but when we do--seeing the good, the bad, and the path that led us here--we don't have to ignore or be owned by what our life used to be.

Some people believe that what one human being does can affect another human being. Even if they are great distances apart. These lyrics take that idea and shrink it.

Curls (Girly Girl)

By Annabel Chima

This lyric specifically uplifts 'Exotical' women - women who are Mixed-race (with Black/African/Caribbean), women who have lived the 'Mixed-race Experience', or those who are constantly sought after/fetishized for 'looking Mixed'. As a DSE (Dark(er)-Skinned Exotical) myself, this Song Lyric is important to me because my phenotype and aesthetic have always been the centre of discussion/attention/speculation, especially in a sexual way. I want other Exoticals, whether Light-Skinned, Brown-Skinned, or Dark-Skinned, to feel understood and uplifted in a validating and empowering way. This Lyric focuses on 'curly hair' (type 2 waves, but more specifically type 3 curly hair) which is often a phenotype that gets fetishized by men and women of other races/phenotypes. This fetish is also seen through people trying to look like us e.g. wearing our natural curls as wigs and/or wand curling their own hair to mimic ours etc. The celebrity women I mention in this song are ICONS to me and are a great representation of 'Exotical' Beauty. I am solely giving them homage. This Song Lyric was also mildly inspired by the Exotical Movement (EGTOW) and it could be seen as 'political' but it is absolutely NOT political - it is solely to uplift Exoticals (with said phenotype). A little bit cheeky, but fun. Suitable for the following Genres: Hip-hop, RnB, Rock, Rap.
