for more than fifty years
now in their twilight
they know the end nears

memories they shared
as they talk of the past
their hopes and dreams
they'd taken to task

they weathered the storms
that life threw their way
held onto each other
to get through the day

twists and turns
they'd seen it all
watch their dreams
rise and fall

hung on in there 
through it all
laughed at disaster

now days are nearly over

they only want to be there
