As a Tree
These lyrics are as much a poem as a song, from first just referencing trees and the atmosphere they provide to giving multiple metaphors actually connecting oneself to a tree. It speaks basically about change and how, just like trees, there's different seasons of change that we go through that can strip us of our leaves and make us bear. But when it goes from a general first-person perspective to the speaker talking about someone else, love is introduced. It goes on then to speak about how when we are blessed to have the right type of love by our side, it reminds us of our strength and aids us in conquering those really hard seasons that we all must endure.

When the trees along my path
are up so high
where I would see what had not been
seen,
and filled to a whole
with hue after hue of all
the brightest greens,
I remember
Being there with them
I feel as full as those red-brown limbs,
when alongside their greens.
Full of happiness
and full of how it is possible
to see what had not been seen
When then the unseen winds
blow harder,
and the leaves on those
red-brown limbs of the trees on my worn down path change color,
To vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds all around,
I see them fall.
As they fall I begin to fall,
begin to break down all my walls
and hints
at what is near
A change I know not to fear
But that I can hardly bear
You see the change in me
Just as the leaves fall from the trees
So help me hold me together
So that I can bear the weather
You kiss me here and there
To show that you care
You remind me of my roots
Of the truths I hold so dear
I feel the connection of a tree
But I'm more than that
Don't you see
I'm the bird that lives in harmony
The strength in me
The one you say you always see
It's gonna set me free
