I think everyone has a creative side. Have you ever told a lie, or made up a story? If the answer is yes, then you have a creative side.

So how do I know how to find this creative side, you may ask yourself. In this piece I'm going to give you some suggestions on how to find your creative side. Being "creative" can pertain to many outlets, in this case I will address writing lyrics.

It all starts with an idea, topic, word, or even someone else's story that you can relate to. It also could be a song that you hear, or about the experiences that you've had in your life. Or, you can just make something up, based or not based on truth.

Here are some topics:

  • Love/relationship's
  • A place that you've been to
  • How and where you grew up
  • History
  • Current or Past events
  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Make up a fictional story
There a so many topics you can use to write about.

When it comes to writing lyrics, it's mostly about your style, personally, etc. "Whatever you put on paper" so to speak. There really isn't any "right or wrong ". It can rhyme, have parts that rhyme, or no rhyme scheme. I call the latter, Lyrical Poetry. For me, I don't decide the format before hand, or even choose the topic, it just flows from something I hear in passing, a song I'm listening to, or a random thought that goes thru my head. To me, everyone will develop their own style. Although I do admit, that I'm influenced by certain types of music, and various songwriters/lyricists

I started writing as a young boy, mostly short stories. As I got older, I wrote jokes, and advertising copy. I moved to Los Angeles to write comedy for TV in 1982, and it was nothing but a "comedy of errors". I ended up in Sales, and only wrote Lyrical Poetry to girlfriends. I didn't start taking writing lyrics seriously until 2021, was accepted to Premium Lyrics, and as they say, "the rest is history". I sold my first Lyric in February 2022, and that blew my mind. So, anyone who wants to write Lyrics, but doesn't know where to start, just start by putting "ink to paper. I use my "Notes" app on my Android, and start multiple lyrics at a time, or finish one in minutes. I rarely edit, or rewrite. My advice, don't think about it too much, just let your mind go, and the words will flow....See what I did there.

So don't procrastinate, a big obstacle in getting started, and just start writing. Write down thoughts, or put down things you like or are interested in, and then write about them. Before you know it, you'll be a poet....I did it again.

So, reach inside yourself, think "in the box", or " outside the box", dream, fantasize, and find your Creative Side, and start writing.

You can do it!
