Just Pretending

(Brian Hendrix)

While I typically write country, this can go that way, or it sounds excellent more in the Bruno Mars sort of vein. It's about a guy who's in love with this friend's girl, so he fantasizes about her leaving him. It flows incredibly well rhythmically; I can't stress that enough. Just sing it sorta fast in a choppy, hard-emphasis-on-syllables fashion and it will come together so you get the gist of where I'm heading with it. I really enjoy it. It's something different for me.

(Chorus) Well, maybe she's only just pretending To love ya, just to get her A reason, to get closer to me And tonight, I might just let her And hope you just forget her 'Cause lovin' on me is what she needs V1 I think I might love her That's the truth Think of all the things I'd do To her, playing all around in my mind I find I can't stop thinking about her It's hard to cope without her And maybe she'll be mine in some time But I see her right there with you And I'm not sure what to do Really thought she'd be with me in the end I can give her everything Be the man from out her dreams Dawns on me I've just been playin' pretend Still think maybe... (Chorus) She's only just pretending To love ya, just to get her A reason, to get closer to me And tonight, I might just let her And hope you just forget her 'Cause lovin' on me is what she needs (x2, the 2nd starts again with "Well, maybe") V2 Today I saw her Come strollin' by Pictured her walking beside me She saw me looking at her and smiled My whole life went flashing by In the azure of her eyes I was walking on XXXXX X XXX XXXXXX XXX XXXX XXXXXXX XX XXXX XX XXXXX XXXX XX XXXXXX XX XXX XXXX XX XXXXX XXXXXX XX XXX XX XXXX XXX X XXXX XX XXXXX XXX XX XXXXXXXXX XXXXX XXXX XX XXXXXXX XXXXXX XXX XXXXXX XX XXXXXXXXX X XXXXX XXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXX XXXX X XXX XXX XX XXXXX XXX XXX XX XXXX XX XXXX XXX XXX XXXX XX XX XXX XXX XXX XXXXX XXX XXXX X XXXXX XXXXX XXX XXX XX XXXXXX XXX X XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXX XXXXX XXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXX XXX XXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

If I Gave You Flowers

By Brian Hendrix

Sometimes breakups happen abruptly and are anything but mutual, and so the person left is resolved to get their lover back. This is a song about that. "If I gave you flowers" was just a line in my head all day. I couldn't go to sleep until I wrote this song. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, especially the chorus. I think the wording throughout is very clever.

If it Helps You Sleep

By Brian Hendrix

I never could sleep well. Even as a kid, I'd just toss and turn. Not sure what it is. So last night I'm struggling to sleep, and wondering if I should click on YouTube for some "tips to help you sleep" type of deal. I thought, well, as long as it helps you sleep. So this song popped into my mind. This isn't a true story for me, though is for a ton of people. It's a genderless song that could apply to men or women. For me, I'd never swallow it up like the guy in this song. I'd call her out quick! The real me is about that reckoning. Songwriter me is more magnanimous.

The Judge

By Brian Hendrix

Another western song I wrote. Typically I write about outlaws and the suchlike, but this one's about a bounty hunter nicknamed "The Judge." I was going to write a very, very long song, about seven verses or so, explaining his real name, where he grew up, etc. Though I think I'd like to make a series of songs about The Judge. We'll see how it goes. This one's very catchy.

What's So Wrong with That

By Brian Hendrix

A lot of emphasis is placed on girls and guys meeting each other the "right" way now in our overly PC culture. I don't know anything about all of that; all I know is that people are never going to become close and fall in love if they never meet. So meet people how you want, where you want. As long as you respect other people, don't let anyone tell you what to do. This is a song about two people meeting in a bar and hitting it off. Soft, light, and most importantly, it's a true story for countless people.

Sandkastenliebe

By Nadine Schulze

Dystopian Nonsense

By M P WEISS

This piece is about how blind we are to see that the authors that were terrified about where technology might land us has landed us here already. We live in a dystopian society and there's nothing we can do about it now...
