War Paint Wanda

(Brian Hendrix)

I sometimes like writing anthem-style songs. This really fits that bill. "War Paint Wanda" is about a tough-as-nails woman from a long time ago who was a legendary warrior and also very mean and tough. This is a fun song to play and sing, and it always gets a cool reaction with people asking if Wanda is based on a real person in history.

War Paint Wanda with a striped left cheek And a club in her right hand Blood red lips, don't think it's paint She's been known to bite a man The eagles screech when they hear her come The hyenas heel and the lions they run (Chorus) Wanda's on the warpath All painted up for battle A warrior, her mare strides on Used bones to make her saddle It's not ghosts or ghouls, demons or fools Men fear when comes the night War Paint Wanda is riding through And she's looking for a fight A rumor or two, the last guy she knew Raised his fist and lost his hand Or the time her tribe wandered the desert Only Wanda made it back She got a scorpion's sting, a tiger's growl All the men watch out when she's on the prowl (Chorus) Village elders scare the girls and boys With tales of Wanda by the fire She rode a dragon, slayed a giant The sky lit with its funeral pyre She drinks from a skull, eats her meat raw The meanest woman that you ever saw (Chorus)

One Try

By Brian Hendrix

Just a fun, quick song that illustrates how we all fail in life the first time we try something. It's fine to do that! As the song reminds us, nobody gets it right in one try. I think I bottled things up well enough, though the concept can always be expanded on. Also the chorus is sort of written out phonetically, so you can get an idea of how the song flows.

Music For The Dance

By Brian Hendrix

A classic-style love song that I wrote some time ago. Just now getting around to posting it. It has a lot of personal meaning for me, and maybe this sort of sentiment has personal meaning for a lot of people. It's good from a guy's or girl's perspective. No specific pronouns.

Country Never Left

By Brian Hendrix

Just a different way to say "You can take the girl out the country, but can't take the country out the girl." This is a very upbeat, rockin' song with a lot of tempo and a powerful chorus. I really like how this turned out, especially the bridge into the chorus. My favorite part of the song. This is also a story a lot of people can relate to who ended up in the city. The chorus pauses for a measure after the ellipses, and it sounds really good that way.

Maybe It's Just You

By Brian Hendrix

A story about a smart, funny, magnetically beautiful girl who doesn't realize all of those things about herself. She thinks that men are only interested in her for wearing skirts or just how she looks, not realizing how exciting of a person she is. So it's a little song about a man speaking with her and noticing these qualities about her, and he thinks that she must not know how awesome she is.

Rushing Waters

By Jaime Marie

There is a desperation in knowing that you can't hold on to someone who is eager to walk away. The tears, and the floodgates of hope and sorrow are only a temporary safeguard against the inevitable. The speaker longs to stop what they know has already begun. But as it slips away, they aren't surprised.

Heller Stern

By Andrea Pflüger

Ein trauriges, aber hoffnungsvolles Lied. Ein Mensch muss gehen und lässt seine Lieben zurück. Doch es gibt einen hellen Stern, der sie als Zeichen der Hoffnung trösten kann.
