Locked in

(Howard Aronson)

This is about an obsessive relationship. It was a woman that I met that I just couldn't stop obsessing over. I knew the relationship wasn't right for me, but I stayed in it anyway. Nothing could help me break away. Everything about her I believed was special even when it wasn't.

She could look right through me And know what was on my mind I am mesmerized by her gaze Every single time There's nothing I can do I am under spell The first time I saw her Was the moment that I fell Her blue green eyes Are all I can see I'm totally locked in To what she wants from me There never seems to be Any way out Having a hold on me Is what she's all about She's like a spider And I'm caught in her web But one thing's for sure She doesn't want me dead Her blue green eyes Are all I can see I'm totally locked in To what she wants from me How did this happen Why didn't I see It was those blue green eyes That got a hold of me She's got me locked in There's no way to win She's got me locked in It seems such a sin

This is about a relationship that I wanted to end for a long time but couldn't. Finally she did it for me, and I felt so relieved. I basically just said there's the door and see you later. But I also wanted to end it on a positive note, so I tried to say a final goodbye and is tactful manner as I could.

Running from time

By Howard Aronson

This lyric really symbolizes a lot of my life. I was constantly running and running and running, hoping things wouldn't catch up with me. Basically I was running from time, and you can't run from time because it's always with you. Sooner or later everything evens out, in the past becomes the present. You can't let go of the past until you rectify it. It affects everything in your life when you try to run from things, but at the time you think it's the right thing to do. I realize now how I was just a scared person running from myself.

Famous

By Howard Aronson

This is a lyric about a relationship with a potential star, who becomes one. As the relationship goes along and the person becomes a bigger star they leave, and when they return there's always less of them that comes back. The person who isn't the star knows that the days are numbered and they will leave one day for good. The only good thing about it was that person got famous from the other. Famous for being the other one in the relationship. Even though they should have known better to get involved and stay in the relationship, they did.

Ole Mr Sundown

By Howard Aronson

This is a fictional lyric about an outlaw in the wild West. Mr Sundown is a feared man by many, but seen by few. If you do run into him things probably won't go so well. He portrays himself as a deputy, or a bounty hunter, but in fact he's just another gunslinger looking for a kill. He's prayed off the weak, and stolen from many. But really he's a nobody, and his time will come.

Standing Here and Looking Back

By Isaac Wragg

Nostalgia is appealing, but it also has an enemy. Forgetting the last can harm us just as much as idolizing it. Finding a balance is hard, but when we do--seeing the good, the bad, and the path that led us here--we don't have to ignore or be owned by what our life used to be.

Some people believe that what one human being does can affect another human being. Even if they are great distances apart. These lyrics take that idea and shrink it.

Curls (Girly Girl)

By Annabel Chima

This lyric specifically uplifts 'Exotical' women - women who are Mixed-race (with Black/African/Caribbean), women who have lived the 'Mixed-race Experience', or those who are constantly sought after/fetishized for 'looking Mixed'. As a DSE (Dark(er)-Skinned Exotical) myself, this Song Lyric is important to me because my phenotype and aesthetic have always been the centre of discussion/attention/speculation, especially in a sexual way. I want other Exoticals, whether Light-Skinned, Brown-Skinned, or Dark-Skinned, to feel understood and uplifted in a validating and empowering way. This Lyric focuses on 'curly hair' (type 2 waves, but more specifically type 3 curly hair) which is often a phenotype that gets fetishized by men and women of other races/phenotypes. This fetish is also seen through people trying to look like us e.g. wearing our natural curls as wigs and/or wand curling their own hair to mimic ours etc. The celebrity women I mention in this song are ICONS to me and are a great representation of 'Exotical' Beauty. I am solely giving them homage. This Song Lyric was also mildly inspired by the Exotical Movement (EGTOW) and it could be seen as 'political' but it is absolutely NOT political - it is solely to uplift Exoticals (with said phenotype). A little bit cheeky, but fun. Suitable for the following Genres: Hip-hop, RnB, Rock, Rap.
