Will-O'-the-Wisp

(Melanie Thompson)

Happy Halloween. This October has had some very scary days. We have mass shootings. We have war. We have in-fighting amongst the populous. Everyone seems to have a bone to pick. When I was little, I enjoyed Halloween. The costumes. The free candy. The decorations. It was fun. This Halloween not so much. Will-o'-the-Wisp is a deceiver. He is an evil that seems to be everywhere. These lyrics unmask him.

Verse 1. Will-o'-the-wisp he's on the street. He's making threats and sending tweets. The walls are down. The money's gone. He's armed himself and feeling strong. The world is sick. Nobody good. He'll shoot you quick. So, shoot him first. That's what Will-o' wishes. Chorus. Happy Birthday Death. Happy Birthday Death. Happy Dead Day Life. Happy Dead Day Life. Merry days are gone. Merry days are gone. Scary days are here. Scary, scary. That's what Will-o' wishes. Verse 2. Will-o'-the-wisp is stacking bombs. He's blasting caps and burning scum. He'll take your land and wreak your home. He wants you dead. Long gone. That's what Will-o' wishes. Bridge. He wants your sanity. Your humanity. Bring calamity and strife. He'll fake a Holy Ghost. Post it coast to coast. Bring the zombies back to life. Chorus. Happy Birthday Death. Happy Birthday Death. Happy Dead Day Life. Happy Dead Day Life. Merry days are gone. Merry days are gone. Scary days are here. Scary, scary. That's what Will-o' wishes. Verse 3. Will-o'-the-wisp he wants your young. He likes them weak. So, keep them dumb. Blot out events from history. Polly Loves Othello

By Melanie Thompson

These lyrics are an adaptation from a play written by Shakespeare. The play is quite long and at times hard to read. So, I gave up and read the cliff notes. I tried to capture the spirit of the tragedy. It is not word for word. And I made a lot of changes. It was that wonderful name he gave to the main character that intrigued me, Othello. What a great name. Also, in writing these lyrics, I thought about how humans recall things. We remember events by experiencing them with our senses. Have you ever smelled something and immediately remembered an event that smelled like that? Roses smell like my high school prom. Vanilla smells like Christmas. Sounds also can send us back in time. Loud bangs put me in a warzone. Lawnmowers remind me of summer. You get the picture. Enjoy.

Easy Peaches

By Melanie Thompson

I love peaches. Nothing better. But there are other life forms that I am certain love them more. I dedicate these lyrics to the lovers of fruit. The ones with two legs and the ones with two wings. The ending is a bit bitter, but Mother Nature brought us into this world, and she can take us out. Enjoy.

I Am the I Am

By Melanie Thompson

I wrote these lyrics with the war occurring now in the middle east in mind. These are my beliefs. They are my own. I did not write them to persuade or offend. Writing is one of my hobbies. And my hobbies comfort me. As I am sure, your hobbies comfort you. They bring me peace. Which is what I wish for us all.

Matrimony

By Melanie Thompson

The institution of marriage I believe is man-made. It was established by men to signal to other men that the women they were with were their property. Just as a man could own a horse or a slave, a man could own a wife. Today, some see marriage as sacred and holy. "What God has brought together let no man divide". That is a very romantic and powerful statement. But it is not a healthy one. I am not against marriage, and I wish only the best to those who are married. In fact, my mother and father were married at 17 and they are still married. But some people make mistakes. And when they do, they should be allowed to correct those mistakes. These lyrics are about a couple that did just that. And they were all the better for it. Please note, the pronouns used in these lyrics are mere suggestions. Matrimony does not discriminate.

Tränenmeer

By Kevin Bolek

Addie Larue.

By Syed Sarmad

This writing piece explores the human psyche, it's contradictory, confusing and infuriating need to want something, but also be too afraid to grab it, even when it's right in the palm of your hand. It speaks of loss, and regrets so visceral one can hardly believe it, but, through it all, knowing that if you had a second chance, you wouldn't change a thing about how it all played out.
