There may be sins, a few or seven
but I’ve had only one fault
always acted like the devil
trying to earn my way into heaven
this heaviness in my heart has only one cause
in the choices I made
to keep my head above the flow
the love, the humanity I failed to show.
As your vision gets blurred
the better you can see
the long race you’ve run
to collect things that shine
now you lament the passing away of your prime
how you wish,
wish you knew, the insidious speed of time.
Is there a God
I do now know
with life’s ups and downs
the feeling comes and goes
but the more I see
the more I doubt
for there’s the magic of chance
and its mighty clout
the impermanence of it all,
illusions, illusions, the illusions you live, before the mighty fall.
