Interview with Jaeigh Gallagher
PL: Hi, you are a successful lyricist and songwriter. Please tell us a little more about yourself:
Jaeigh G: Howdy, I’m Jaeigh! It’s pronounced ‘Jay’ by the by. I’m a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Pennsylvania! I mainly write punk and or pop songs/lyrics! I remember the year I started writing, I was 8 years old. My first grade teacher, Joyce Klasen had us create our own books and I fell in love with writing from then on. You can ask anyone, I carried a notebook and a writing utensil EVERYWHERE. Joyce helped me more than she’ll ever know, she introduced me to my first love, writing. In 2nd grade I wrote my first book on my own terms and I might have that somewhere! Haha. But in middle school I turned to poetry which eventually turned into lyrics! Thanks to all of the people who broke my heart in high school, look at me know.
PL: What brought you to punk and pop?
Jaeigh G: I’m a loner and have this sort of ‘don’t touch me’ attitude and punk music really speaks to the rebel/sad attitude in me. Pop lyrics are fairly easy for me to write because they’re usually really catchy and repetitive and don’t take much for me. I get inspiration from everything, it flows easily. :) Punk just has this raw “IDGAF” edge about it, that’s just hard not to drown in. It gave me my confidence and helped me love myself! Paramore was the first band I listened to ever, their songs resonated deeply with me! Ariana Grande was my first favorite and is still my favorite artist of all time, she introduced me to pop and more recently, R&B. So those artists helped me find the lane I belong to, which is no lane at all…I want to bend genres and mix them and be something the world has yet to see!
PL: What artists have you found the most inspiring?
Jaeigh G: Paramore!!! Ariana Grande!!!! Also willow smith and Demi Lovato. Definitely my top 4. Funnily enough Ariana Grande is the only non rock artist on my list. The voices on my list are UNPARALLELED. Absolutely phenomenal artists. You’ve got to listen to Demi Lovatos recent album ‘Holy Fvck’ this album really spoke to me and possibly single-handedly showed me why I started music in the first place! There are few honorable mentions though like Tinashe, Aaliyah, Isaac Dunbar, Conan’s Gray, Olivia Rodrigo, Beyoncé, Panic at the disco, greenday, Andy black, Billie eilish, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Maren Morris, Eartha Kitt, Kate bush, Normani, Sam Smith, Mary J Blige and many many more.
PL: Any plans for the future?
Jaeigh G: I’d like to record and release my debut Album!! Also if I was even nominated for a Grammy I’d could die happy. Numbers and awards aren’t the reason that I joined music and you won’t see me begging for people to listen to my music anymore, I’ve come to the conclusion that my star will rise when it’s my turn. But if I were to be nominated for something I would accept is gracefully as the honor that it is. I’d also like to venture into songwriting for other artists, acting and entrepreneurship. By 2024 I’d like to have a debut and sophomore album out, have a world tour and sell out stadiums! Though I know it’ll be hard for me as I have to kick doors down that are opened for my non colored peers but I will do it!
PL: PREMIUM LYRICS is a young but fastly growing collaboration site for musicians and lyricists. What do you think about the concept?
Jaeigh G: I think it’s a great start and easy way to make money, and it’s FREE. Incredible opportunity. Every other site I had gone to was asking for insane amounts of money even if there was no guarantee you’d make any money from your lyrics, which you often won’t. So the fact that I happened upon PREMIUM LYRICS at a time when I needed it, is incredible and I will forever be thankful for this company and it’s creators! It’s an amazing site, especially for beginners and or novices who wish to dip their toe in the waters of the industry and even find some community as well! To reiterate this site is incredible and I’m thankful that I found it!
