Metaphor
When you've been with someone for years, seeming to have had a real love connection and then break up, it's hard to grasp. Let alone explain to someone else what happened. Lyrics often use metaphors to describe break-ups. This is how I use a metaphor to describe mine.

Verse 1. You've ransacked
my only chance
for happiness.
Sad circumstance.
You've mucked me up
my buttercup.
So quarrelsome.
I'm giving up.
I wish you could
feel what I feel.
When I'm with you.
When nothing's real.
On bended knee
I plead to you.
You knock me down.
Say we are through.
Chorus. My long hair
sweeping across the floor.
My pretty nails
chipping away
at your cellar door.
My blue eyes spy an escape.
So, I try but I can't.
The chains won't break.
My heart still aches
in metaphors.
Verse 2. The sun goes down.
The cold rolls in.
The dark consumes
this room I'm in.
A radio.
A bottle cap.
A moving chair.
My ears are tapped.
To all the sounds.
To anything.
A neighbor's knock.
A neighbor's ring.
How did I let you
take me down
without a fight,
without a sound?
Chorus. My long hair
sweeping across the floor.
My pretty nails
chipping away
at your cellar door.
My blue eyes spy an escape.
So, I try but I can't.
The chains won't break.
My heart still aches
in metaphors.
