How Hope Sings in the Night

(Edward McBride)

These lyrics highlight the overnight success of a down-on-his-luck good old country boy who is barely getting by and is pretty much homeless. Until the breakthrough of someone hearing his music and changing his life. He has held on to hope, with no parents and distant cousins and the loyalty of his big dog Cody.

Down in the southern clubs, and old-time pubs In my Ford pickup, I earn my daily grub. Living meager, yearning for a break Strumming by day, singing by night for my own sake Lost my folks long ago, and no kin around. My cousins are too distant, no family to surround me. I sleep in my truck almost every night. Some nights, fits of hunger were my only plight. Chorus Hold on tight to hope, don’t you give in It’s easy to quit when life wears thin. But it’s the strength in holding on, of course. Keep that hope alive, it’s your guiding force. A fella heard my tunes and said he’d be back. Hope sparked anew, no room for lack. Time passed by no word from that man. Then like a whirlwind, he returned with a plan. He’ll manage and record, dress me up fine. Handed me a contract, and said, “You’re gonna shine.” From sleeping in my truck to this new hope’s gleam Feels like I’m living the impossible dream. Chorus Hold on tight to hope, don’t you give in It’s easy to quit when life wears thin. But it’s the strength in holding on, of course. Keep that hope alive, it’s your guiding force. Bridge During hard times, dreams still survive. Sometimes they soar when it feels like a dive. With hope as my compass, I’ll take the chance. Singing from the heart, in every note’s dance Chorus Hold on tight to hope, don’t you give in It’s easy to quit when life wears thin. But it’s the strength in holding on, of course. Keep that hope alive, it’s your guiding force. Outro In this grand ol’ journey, I’ll play my part. Holding on to hope, deep within my heart. With this newfound chance, I’ll embrace the scope. Always believing—keeping strong, keeping hope

Howling in the Shadows of War

By Edward McBride

This is about the deep and painful experience of serving in the military and the lasting impact it has on one's life. The emotional and psychological toll that war takes on individuals is profound and often difficult to express. The internal conflict and struggles of veterans. The haunting memories of war, the moral dilemmas, and the unseen scars of battle are palpable in the lyrics. The weight of having to make life-and-death decisions in combat and the trauma resulting from those experiences are portrayed vividly here. The chorus speaks volumes about the message I am trying to convey--the devastating impact of war. The music is a source of solace and a coping mechanism. The guitar and singing serve as a form of therapy.
