Garden of Eden

(Erika Poling)

We all fall for lies. Words can be deceptive. Promises are often broken.

I promised, last August I put your words in my pocket They dripped of silver And melted to glitter From the drizzling heat A taste so sweet I swallowed them whole With no self-control And I didn’t know I would be left starving And that you had to go Go back to the Garden I drank the juice From the forbidden fruit You're the apple of my eye I breathe your supply I need it to survive Like the Earth needs the light Be the sun to my sky Make my night come alive Although, I didn’t know That I was eating Eating from the Garden of Eden So I lay here bleeding Feed my being, please me I need it, I need it I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding And I didn’t know I would be left starving And that you had to go Go back to the Garden I promise, the exotic Something completely erotic Dripping lines of silver And something unfamiliar I’ll be at your feet Please name me your queen It’s your words, I hold With my entire soul And I should’ve known My love would harvest That you would have to go Sometimes words mean nothing I drank the juice From the forbidden fruit You're the apple of my eye I breathe your supply I need it to survive Like the Earth needs the light Be the sun to my sky Make my night come alive Although, I didn’t know That I was eating Eating from the Garden of Eden So I lay here bleeding Feed my being, please me I need it, I need it I’m bleeding, I’m bleeding And I didn’t know I would be left starving And that you had to go Go back to the Garden And I should’ve known My love would harvest That you would have to go Sometimes words mean nothing

Butterfly (oh my, my)

By Erika Poling

Personifying the monarch as comparable to a love interest allows the lyrics to create colorful images of smilies and metaphors. This species lives approximately nine months, which is how long the relationship lasted. Pure poetry to a woman who reminded the writer of a blue and brown butterfly she sighted in her garden. The idea was influenced by a summer experience on a humid day in July.

Sunset

By Erika Poling

Two people who come off to the world as heartless, secretly understand each other's needs. Not getting attached or surrendering to one's feelings is a common attitude found in today's hook-up culture. But, many people have stronger emotions brooding beneath the surface they often fear to express. The lyrics mention two people who love each other, but prefer to keep their "private" life... well private. Hooking up turns into making love, and secretly we all desire affection.

Ein Vorhang aus Glas

By Jana Breuling
