Morphological Blurt

(Melanie Thompson)

I had a very active puppy I named Blurt. My brother asked me if he could have it. Because I had decided to join the military, I said OK. When I came home to visit my brother and Blurt, I was told the sad news that Blurt had ran away. I immediately went around the neighborhood looking for him. No luck. I've never told my brother this, but I have always suspected that he dumped Blurt. I was thinking about Blurt today and decided to write some lyrics in his honor. Blurt, if you are still alive, know you were loved.

Verse 1. I found a dog in a ditch by the road. The owner split. Left him there I supposed. I put the dog in a box. Rode my bike. Cut through the park. It was dark, late at night. I laid the box on the bed in my room. I took him out. Rubbed his head. Flash bang! Heard a boom. Chorus. Morphological Blurt. Take his paw and you're off on a fantasy ride. Of course it will hurt. Flesh and bones acetone. Take the shape of new life. But what it's all worth. You'll have a chance to advance, to become a canine. Be an expert on all the dog dirt with the help of, walk the trail of, Ruff! Ruff! Morphological Blurt. Verse 2. I stuck my nose in a big pile of poop. I gave the butt of a Doberman, a smooch. I chased a cat up a tree just for fun. Ran to the beach. Dug a hole. Caught some sun. I swiped some meat from a store on my block. Somebody yelled. Stop thief! And now, the cage is locked. Verse 3. I cried myself to sleep the first night. Refused the food. I went on a hunger strike. I bit the hand of the man with the keys. I raised my leg, sprayed his shoes with my pee. I barked and growled just as loud as I could. Take me back, you clowns to my old neighborhood! Verse 4. I would have died in the pen had it not been for the girl with the grin. This little tot, she picked me out. Took me home. Gave me love. She has a kind-hearted soul, a turtle dove. I lick her face every chance that I get. Want her to know. Not forget. I'm proud to be her pet.

Suburban Boy Scout

By Melanie Thompson

I always wanted to be a Girl Scout. I never got the chance though. The organization wasn't available where I lived. However, The Boy Scouts were. My brother was a Boy Scout. These lyrics are not meant in any way to shade The Boy Scouts. Just the opposite. Without The Boy Scouts my brother would have more than likely ended up in prison or dead.

Whispers of the Cosmic Ballet

By Edward McBride

I have tried to create a dreamlike atmosphere throughout the lyrics. The connection between the individual and the cosmos is expressed --the idea of finding grace, learning to fly, and navigating life's ebbs and flows resonates with a sense of hope and resilience. In the outro, it invites the reader to join in the cosmic dance and embrace the dreams that lie within the whispers of the night
