Going Back

(John Clayton)

We are all guilty of "idealizing" the past and often imaging things in our memories to be better than they were. This song reflects on the fact that nothing stays the same and that we would have to give up parts of who we are now, who we've become to step back in time to those imagined ideal times...

I dreamed of walking backwards On my back was a scale of stone But the load was an empty burden As I was walking all alone Then the hands of time touched me They chilled me to the bone When I looked in a empty mirror In my place I saw my home ***Chorus*** I wanted to go back To the places that I loved The place that I survived in The place where I grew up Home is always there they say Time can never change it But I just can't go back there I somehow feel a stranger (Hey, Hey, I just wanted to go home) (Hey, Hey, I just wanted to go home) (Hey, Hey, Without Home you'll be alone) Lines in Brackets for final Chorus run So many times I sit around And think about my home How I've changed, how I've grown Will I be the one not known Should I stay, should I go Take a chance on the past See the sights, find my way And be a better man You seek out new beginnings So you leave behind the past Just try to do a better job Than the memories in the mask In the end I have to sacrifice In the end I have to give To go back, to go back To where I used to live

In today's world many of us have experienced on a personal level or through others the effects of addiction on an acquaintance or even a family member. "Do the Line" touches on a surface level the issues from the addicts perspective and how it can often result in a gradual loss of everything around them.

The Circle Is Closed

By John Clayton

Often in our individual lives and in society we are presented with similar opportunities or situations that allow us the opportunity to make different choices and to change ourselves and the direction our lives take. This song explores how we can "complete" some of our own personal situations and how society could do the same. We are presented with these similar scenarios to give us the opportunity to make new and beneficial choices...we simply need the courage to do so.

Fallen Angel

By John Clayton

This song touches on what can happen when a child challenges, and pulls away from family as they begin to grow and search for their identity. It explores how easy it seems to be in today's world for children to become lost not only to themselves, but to any thoughts, or hope for any type of future. Today's society seems to offer many more avenues of destruction and many more "slippery slopes" that children need to be guided away from, and supported through as they struggle towards adulthood. These lyrics simply reflect how the signs can be missed and how quickly things can slip out of everyone's control.

Good Life

By John Clayton

Good Life is a statement on how the media often portrays life and existence. While it often glosses over the mundane and presents an idealized version of daily living the truth for many is far from that reality. Of course "escapism" is the purpose of many of these programs or movies. But, if it influences thinking into a false sense of what is possible it can end up being detrimental as opposed to merely being entertainment.

By David Bukovic
