Amidst the thickness of my cold surroundings
Amongst the darkened souls I need to move
Between the then and now my life's been sorrow
And it seems as yet I still have lots to prove

The voices keep repeating what I can't be
Instead of recognizing all that I have been
The echoes tease about the things I can't see
Instead of realizing all that I have seen

My journey to this point has been insightful
Even though I might not be on top
The lessons which I carry with me always
Prepared me so that I know when to stop

Some pleasures in this life I have been granted
Others in the world I'm yet to taste
Many roads that I still have to travel
I'll do so in my stride and not with haste

The images I had for me in this life
Have withered over time and now are few
This does not mean, however, I am clueless
It means just old has been replaced by new
