Teenage marriage
These lyrics tell the story of a teenage rural couple who have unprotected sex and she gets pregnant. He could walk away but does the right thing and they will get married. They both work very hard and continue to add to their family. They may not be rich financially but they are rich in the quality of their lives with three beautiful and disciplined kids.

We started out as high school sweethearts
We did not know what love was
we only knew the passion
Hey, where's the shotgun, it's a wedding
The teenage couple forced into marriage
They said that it would fail
I had turned so pale
The license in the mail
Chorus
You grow up fast
we have no money
you hope it will last
It's tough luck honey
We will get help
I work the land
Don't cry, don't yelp
That's where we stand
The child was one
we made it two
I worked the ranch
from morning to night
to feed the hungry kids
My wife worked hard
at making quilts
All colors of the rainbow
Chorus
You grow up fast
we have no money
you hope it will last
it's tough luck honey
We will get help
I work the land
Don't cry, don't yelp
That's where we stand
They grow up fast
it's in the past
Just how we got it started
It will soon be three
get off that tree
We thank the Lord
for helping us
stay healthy
Chorus
You grow up fast
we have no money
you hope it will last
It's tough luck honey
we will get help
I work the land
Don't cry, don't yelp
That's where we stand
