No Curtain For The Show

(Free Deeks)

A relationship is faltering, and maybe nearing its end. However, one of them is clinging to a belief that there could be a reconciliation. There is tenacity, hope and a belief that it’s not over until the large lady start her song.

You said something new to me, the meaning wasn’t clear The lipstick on your teeth says our stop is almost here The subpoena left me leaner, the outcome was profound I’m walking on the stoney path in search of common ground There were tears now you’re arid, a desert in a dress I’m feeling all at sea, a damned soul in distress There’s no chink in you armour or do I see a smile Are there snowballs in Hell or can we reconcile? Not dead yet, not ended, it’s not over, not done There’s no full stop to this sentence, no setting for this sun Not dead yet, not buried, no curtain for the show Still clinging to the final straw, trading blow for blow Got the front to turn your back, I’ll turn it back again So friends becoming enemies can sometimes become friends I see sunshine in your grimace, hope in ‘I don’t care’ (There’s a) spark of hope igniting, glowing like a flare Not dead yet, not ended, it’s not over, not done There’s no full stop to this sentence, no setting for this sun Not dead yet, not buried, no curtain for the show Still clinging to the final straw, trading blow for blow

Poison Pen

By Free Deeks

A number of years ago I lived in a flat that was owned by a professional woman who lived in the room above. Throughout the night, I would hear the banging of typewriter keys reverberating through the ceiling above. It transpired that she was writing poison pen letters and sending them to the relatives and friends of people she knew. I moved away from the area, but I often wonder what became of her.

One Million Smiles

By Free Deeks

This is an indulgent, enjoyment of falling in love. The rush and the excitement, the abandonment and the lack of fear at doing something stupid. When you’re in love, there’s a smile that you can’t scrub off.

Not Rock ‘n’ Roll

By Free Deeks

Lamenting a loss of a rebellious attitude among some people involved in Rock ‘n’ Roll, I wrote this as an observation and a hope that some would step up to the plate and challenge us. Reggae and grime are doing their bit, pull up your soap box and say something.

Crowd

By Clairine T.

A relationship between two people with vastly different personalities and perspectives doesn't always work out well. When people are too different, there could never be a middle ground, and a huge rift is created that could not be crossed by themselves or anyone else for that matter. You could say that that kind of relationship is toxic, impossible to fix, that they should go their separate ways before things get worse between them. But when those two people are each other's closest companion, the fear of having no one else by their side often overrides how huge that rift is. Nothing could come out of it, but they only have each other. Though they aren't close and don't understand one another like how friends, or family, should, they are still marginally better than strangers, and sometimes that alone is enough to make them stay in that permanent stalemate.
