Easy Peaches

(Melanie Thompson)

I love peaches. Nothing better. But there are other life forms that I am certain love them more. I dedicate these lyrics to the lovers of fruit. The ones with two legs and the ones with two wings. The ending is a bit bitter, but Mother Nature brought us into this world, and she can take us out. Enjoy.

Verse 1. I grew up in the southern state of Georgia. My peer groups were the birds and the dandelions. Short distance from Fort Valley was a lonely tree of peaches seeded there, forgotten over time. In summer days I'd make my way to see her. She'd welcome me and offer up some shade. As open as a flower she would talk to me for hours. Each tasty word as sweet as her bouquet. Chorus. Easy Peaches. Someone left you all alone. Easy Peaches. Grass around you overgrown. Easy Peaches. I'll take care of you each day. Easy Peaches. Leaves me speechless. Verse 2. The seasons came and went with no real drama. A poacher now and then we didn't mind. But somewhere we lost the favor of a moody Mother Nature, who blew unto and threw my peach tree down. Chorus. Easy Peaches. Please don't leave me all alone. Easy Peaches. You're my rock, my cornerstone. Easy Peaches. Without you I lose my home. Easy Peaches. You're in pieces. Verse 3. The trauma of that tragic day still lingers. Her saccharin. Her broken limbs. Her cries. As I lay here on my deathbed, leave none of you 'til I've said, that Nature hates the fruits that love the flies. Chorus. Easy Peaches. All the forces disapproved. Easy Peaches. Even though our love was true. Easy Peaches. Should've never pestered you. Easy Peaches. We were foolish.

I Am the I Am

I wrote these lyrics with the war occurring now in the middle east in mind. These are my beliefs. They are my own. I did not write them to persuade or offend. Writing is one of my hobbies. And my hobbies comfort me. As I am sure, your hobbies comfort you. They bring me peace. Which is what I wish for us all.

Matrimony

By Melanie Thompson

The institution of marriage I believe is man-made. It was established by men to signal to other men that the women they were with were their property. Just as a man could own a horse or a slave, a man could own a wife. Today, some see marriage as sacred and holy. "What God has brought together let no man divide". That is a very romantic and powerful statement. But it is not a healthy one. I am not against marriage, and I wish only the best to those who are married. In fact, my mother and father were married at 17 and they are still married. But some people make mistakes. And when they do, they should be allowed to correct those mistakes. These lyrics are about a couple that did just that. And they were all the better for it. Please note, the pronouns used in these lyrics are mere suggestions. Matrimony does not discriminate.

Waiting on the Other Side

By Melanie Thompson

The other side is what? Heaven? Hell? Neither? Are all the sins we commit forgiven? I think so. I hope so. This is what the other side looks like to me. You may end up in a beautiful place (Heaven), but you will spend eternity in that beautiful place correcting all the wrong you did as a human being (Hell). So, for me, the other side is both. The more wrongs we right now, in human form, the less time we spend on the other side doing it.

Metaphor

By Melanie Thompson

When you've been with someone for years, seeming to have had a real love connection and then break up, it's hard to grasp. Let alone explain to someone else what happened. Lyrics often use metaphors to describe break-ups. This is how I use a metaphor to describe mine.
