I Am the I Am

(Melanie Thompson)

I wrote these lyrics with the war occurring now in the middle east in mind. These are my beliefs. They are my own. I did not write them to persuade or offend. Writing is one of my hobbies. And my hobbies comfort me. As I am sure, your hobbies comfort you. They bring me peace. Which is what I wish for us all.

Verse 1. I'm not a song to be played while in war to portray death the victor. I'm not a word to be used, misconstrued to confuse love for hatred. I'm not the dance or the moves or the waves or the grooves that possess you. I'm not an image to be feared, to revere, to hold dear, bow and pray to. Verse 2. I exist. I create. Before time. Before date. Before seasons. No white cloud holds my throne. No pearl gates, streets of gold mark my kingdom. Exclusive to one spot? Reclusive? I am not void of reason. I made all. I love all. I call all, big or small, each my children. Chorus. I am the I Am. The greater unknown. Define me? Confine me to steeple or dome? Ragdolls and curses are worthless and vain. Divide me in pieces is loss. Nothing gained. Deduce me? Excuse me? Refuse me a choice. But all who receive me will one day rejoice. I am the I Am. To no man I'm shone. You'll know all about me when I take you home. I am the I Am.

Matrimony

By Melanie Thompson

The institution of marriage I believe is man-made. It was established by men to signal to other men that the women they were with were their property. Just as a man could own a horse or a slave, a man could own a wife. Today, some see marriage as sacred and holy. "What God has brought together let no man divide". That is a very romantic and powerful statement. But it is not a healthy one. I am not against marriage, and I wish only the best to those who are married. In fact, my mother and father were married at 17 and they are still married. But some people make mistakes. And when they do, they should be allowed to correct those mistakes. These lyrics are about a couple that did just that. And they were all the better for it. Please note, the pronouns used in these lyrics are mere suggestions. Matrimony does not discriminate.

Waiting on the Other Side

By Melanie Thompson

The other side is what? Heaven? Hell? Neither? Are all the sins we commit forgiven? I think so. I hope so. This is what the other side looks like to me. You may end up in a beautiful place (Heaven), but you will spend eternity in that beautiful place correcting all the wrong you did as a human being (Hell). So, for me, the other side is both. The more wrongs we right now, in human form, the less time we spend on the other side doing it.

Metaphor

By Melanie Thompson

When you've been with someone for years, seeming to have had a real love connection and then break up, it's hard to grasp. Let alone explain to someone else what happened. Lyrics often use metaphors to describe break-ups. This is how I use a metaphor to describe mine.

A Taste of Country

By Melanie Thompson

Before I say a word or two about these lyrics, I would like to confess that I wrote them while I was hungry. Had I eaten a chicken salad sandwich, bag of chips and a sugar cookie before sitting down to write these lyrics, these lyrics may never have been written. I will also caution you to eat before reading them. Anyway, I was born in the country and raised by country folk. This song is a tip of my hat to all the country folk around the globe. Those folks who help feed the rest of us. And how blessed we are to have food. Oh Snap! I'm hungry again. Enjoy.
