I Don't Want to Write a Love Song

(Melanie Thompson)

I read somewhere that love songs make up 90% of the music market. I have a hard time writing love songs. My lyrics are usually funny, stupid or dark. This song is an example of my limitations. My goal when I started writing these lyrics was to pen a love song and this is what came out.

Verse 1. I want to write about my one-night stands. To count them all I'd need six more hands. A common problem if you're in a band. Or beaver-eager to become a man. I want to write a song about my woes. Place my worries on the backs of hoes. Play the victim card, be one of those. Say you're a villian. I'm a hero. Chorus. I don't want to write a love song. Make a total stranger cry. Pour my heart out on the paper. Cut it up and make it rhyme. I don't want to write a love song. Every word would be a lie. I was the one. I was the traitor. I was the fool who said good-bye. Verse 2. I want to write a song about how sweet my life is now. Satisfied. Complete. I want to tell the world about my cash. Forget the riches of the love I had. I want to write a song that players sing. Where bad behavior is the next best thing. I want to plead may case and convince you. I'm so much better now that we are through. Chorus. I don't want to write a love song. Make a total stranger cry. Pour my heart out on the paper. Cut it up and make it rhyme. I don't want to write a love song. Every word would be a lie. I was the one. I was the traitor. I was the fool who said good-bye. Bridge. Love songs are the words that we sing to remind. To keep us remembering lost loves left behind. Love songs for the person who is hopeful and kind. Need I remind you, I'm just not that guy. Verse 3. I want to write a song that makes you dance. You'd do whatever just for one more chance. A song so epic, it's a masterpiece. Have you begging on you're hands and knees. I want to write a song about my rage. Call you a bitch on every page. I need to show you just how hard I am. Hide the fact that I'm a broken man. Chorus. I don't want to write a love song. Make a total stranger cry. Pour my heart out on the paper. Cut it up and make it rhyme. I don't want to write a love song. Every word would be a lie. I was the one. I was the traitor. I was the fool who said good-bye.

Morphological Blurt

By Melanie Thompson

I had a very active puppy I named Blurt. My brother asked me if he could have it. Because I had decided to join the military, I said OK. When I came home to visit my brother and Blurt, I was told the sad news that Blurt had ran away. I immediately went around the neighborhood looking for him. No luck. I've never told my brother this, but I have always suspected that he dumped Blurt. I was thinking about Blurt today and decided to write some lyrics in his honor. Blurt, if you are still alive, know you were loved.
