I Knew It Would Happen All Along
A semi-comical post-breakup song about a man claiming he knew his relationship would fall apart from the beginning, even though the truth is not so simple.

A breezy day becomes a stormy night,
A soft “I’ll stay” becomes “I’m leaving tonight,”
Leaving you with sudden fright
Yet allegedly affirming prophetic eyesight:
I knew it would happen all along,
Before it was composed I was singing that song,
I knew that the right would become the wrong
Before the mallet hit the crashing gong.
I knew she would leave me even before she was gone;
That was obvious from the first dawn.
I noticed the lawn was getting long,
I noticed a laugh was turning into a yawn.
A video tape gets stuck on rewind,
A reflection becomes a closed window blind
Leaving you stuck looking behind
At the tsunami waves you failed to find.
I knew it would happen all along,
Before it was composed I was singing that song,
I knew that the right would become the wrong
Before the mallet hit the crashing gong.
I knew she would say goodbye right after hi;
That was obvious from the first half-true lie.
I noticed when she smiled, she wanted to cry,
I noticed when she landed, she was longing to fly.
But everyone wants to believe that;
Nobody really knows where they are at.
